U.S. Senator Richard Durbin to speak on health reform benefits for Illinois

U.S. Senator Richard Durbin will speak on health reform benefits for Illinois at an educational forum for seniors, community leaders and others.
Durbin and other speakers – Ron Pollack, Executive Director, Families USA; Cristal Thomas, Regional Director, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Jim Duffett, Executive Director of Campaign for Better Health Care – will detail the benefits for Illinoisans under the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, at a Confab, Monday, June 14, 2010, at Mather’s – More than a Cafe, 3235 N. Central Ave., beginning at 10 a.m.
Speakers at the June 14th Confab will explain benefits of Reform just as “Donut Hole” Compensation Checks, and other benefits begin to roll out.
On Tuesday, June 15, the first benefits of the new health reform law will begin to take effect. Seniors who participate in Medicare Part D and have hit the “donut hole” – the gap in coverage that begins when a senior reaches $2,700 in drug benefits and then must pay drug costs out of pocket until reaching $6,154, when Medicare Part D prescription benefits kick in once again – will receive $250 rebate checks from the government to help cover those out of pocket costs. In each subesequent year, the amount of those checks will increase until the donut hole is closed in the year 2020.
The event is free and open to the public, though space is limited.
